Victorville is a city in the Victor Valley of San Bernardino County, California, with a 2020 population of 134,810. It is the main city in the Victorville–Hesperia–Apple Valley urban area, which has a total population of 355,816, making it the 117th largest urban area in the United States.
The area was originally inhabited by the Serrano people. In 1858, Aaron G. Lane founded a waystation called Lane’s Crossing along the Mojave River to provide shelter and supplies for travelers. Lane, a Mexican–American War veteran who had come west during the California gold rush, later sold the station to John Fry Miller, who renamed it Pioneer Station and established the first local polling place, marking the beginnings of the town’s development.
