Rolling Hills is a gated city on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in Los Angeles County, California. Incorporated in 1957, it features single-story homes in the 19th century California ranch or Spanish hacienda style, often designed by architect Wallace Neff. The community is rural and equestrian-focused, with no traffic lights, multi-acre lots, wide equestrian paths, and strict requirements for white-painted homes and horse property.
The city has a small population of 1,739 as of 2020 and the third highest median house value in the United States. Residents rely on nearby towns for work, shopping, schools, and services, as the only commercial land in Rolling Hills is occupied by city hall, the community association, and a fire station. The city covers 3.0 square miles, bordered by Rolling Hills Estates to the north and Rancho Palos Verdes on other sides.
