Rialto is a city in San Bernardino County, California, located 56 miles east of Los Angeles near the Cajon Pass and major highways including Interstate 15, Interstate 10, and State Route 210. It had a population of 104,026 in 2020, up from 99,171 in 2010, and has grown rapidly due to the development of major distribution centers. The city hosts facilities for companies like Staples, Amazon, Under Armour, Medline Industries, Niagara Bottling, Monster Energy, Target, and Pyro Spectaculars.
Historically, the area was settled by the Serrano Indians between 1500 and 1800 AD, and some of the oldest buildings, including an early 19th century adobe near Bud Bender Park, still stand. The land was originally part of Rancho San Bernardino, granted to the Lugo family in 1842, and later sold in part to the Mountain Family. In 1887, the Santa Fe Railroad built a connector line through the area, leading to the creation of new townsites and a Methodist colony named after the Rialto Bridge in Venice, Italy. The first school was built in 1888, and the Rialto School District, now Rialto Unified School District, was officially formed in 1891.
