Redlands is a city in San Bernardino County, California, with a 2020 population of 73,168. It is located about 45 miles northwest of Palm Springs and 63 miles east of Los Angeles. Founded in 1881 on land originally inhabited by the Serrano, Morongo, and Cahuilla tribes, Redlands incorporated in 1888, absorbing several surrounding communities. The city is home to the historic Asistencia Mission, founded in 1819, and became a major center of California’s citrus industry by the early 20th century, producing navel oranges on a large scale.
Redlands has a strong tradition of philanthropy, with institutions such as the Smiley Library, University of Redlands, Redlands Bowl, Lincoln Memorial Shrine, Redlands Bicycle Classic, and the Garner Holt Foundation contributing to the community.
