Mira Loma, meaning “Look Hill” in Spanish, is now a neighborhood of Jurupa Valley in Riverside County, California. It was formerly a census-designated place with a population of 21,930 in 2010, up from 17,617 in 2000. Originally known as Wineville, the name was changed in 1930 to distance the community from the Wineville Chicken Coop murders.
Geographically, Mira Loma covers 8.1 square miles, mostly land, with a small portion of water. Parts of Mira Loma became part of Eastvale in 2010 and Jurupa Valley in 2011. The area was originally part of Rancho Jurupa, granted to Juan Bandini in 1838, and is bordered by the Santa Ana River to the south, Ontario and Fontana to the north and west, and Pedley/Glen Avon to the east.
