Lennox is a census-designated place in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County, California, with a 2020 population of 20,323, down from 22,753 in 2010. Originally established as a small farming settlement around 1905 and named Lennox in 1912, it was part of the large rancho owned by Daniel Freeman. By the 1920s, Lennox had grown into a community of about 7 square miles, though much of its land was later annexed by neighboring Hawthorne and Inglewood.
By the early 1930s, Lennox had a population of over 9,000 within just over 2 square miles. The area was noted in 1939 as a developing farming community with improving construction quality. The post-World War II period brought rapid industrialization and residential growth, driven by aircraft production in the South Bay region and the opening of Los Angeles International Airport in 1949, which created jobs and boosted local development.
