Lake Los Angeles is a census-designated place in Los Angeles County, California, with a population of 13,187 as of the 2020 census. It is located 17 miles east of Palmdale and is part of the larger Palmdale/Lancaster urban area, which has nearly 484,000 residents.Public transportation is provided by the Antelope Valley Transit Authority. Route 50 connects Town Center Plaza to Lancaster, and Route 51 connects Town Center Plaza to Palmdale. Buses run about every two hours with a one-way fare of $1.50.
Historically, the area was called Los Angeles Buttes. In the 1960s, developers created an artificial lake and named the area Lake Los Angeles to attract buyers. The lake and resort-style amenities were short-lived, and the lake eventually dried up in the early 1980s. Efforts to refill it have been limited by funding. Lake Los Angeles has a long history in film and television production dating back to 1938. It features two permanent film sets Four Aces and Club Ed which have been used in movies, TV shows, music videos, and commercials for decades.
