The City of Industry is an almost entirely industrial city in the San Gabriel Valley of eastern Los Angeles County, California. It has over 3,000 businesses employing 67,000 people but only 264 residents as of 2020, making it the third least populous city in the state. Incorporated in 1957, it has become the economic hub of the San Gabriel Valley.
Historically, the city sits on land that was part of Rancho La Puente, granted in 1841 to William and Nicolasa Workman. The Workman family prospered as cattle ranchers during the Gold Rush and later through oil discoveries. In 1917, Walter P. Temple and his wife Laura purchased the Workman House and surrounding land, now the Workman and Temple Family Homestead Museum, which is open to the public. By the 1910s, Tract 1343 outlined much of the current city boundaries.
