Grand Terrace is a city in San Bernardino County, California, with a population of 13,150 as of the 2020 census. It is located between Highgrove and Colton, along the I-215 and Agua Mansa industrial corridors, and sits between Blue Mountain to the east and the La Loma Hills to the west.
The area has roots in Mexican land grants from the 1830s and 1840s, with Mormon settlers arriving in the 1850s. Originally called “the Terrace,” the name “Grand” was added around 1898 due to the scenic views. Seventh-day Adventists settled there in 1905. Early development was fueled by the Gage canal, which brought water for agriculture, making citrus and later walnuts and peaches key crops. Social life in the early 1900s revolved around the Farm Bureau Extension Service and the Women’s Club, later joined by the PTA. The Grand Terrace Chamber of Commerce was formed in 1962, advocating for cityhood. After forming a Municipal Advisory Council in 1976 and public votes, Grand Terrace was officially incorporated on November 30, 1978, becoming the 16th city in San Bernardino County.
