Bloomington is an urban unincorporated community in San Bernardino County, California, with a population of 24,339 as of 2020. It is classified as a census-designated place (CDP). local activists are pushing for cityhood, while neighboring Rialto and Fontana are seeking to annex parts of the community.
Originally developed by the Semi-Tropic Land and Water Company in 1887, Bloomington’s early growth included the Riverside Portland Cement Company plant in 1907 and railroad connections for employees. The town was officially surveyed in 1888, with boundaries defined by Valley Boulevard, Slover Avenue, Larch Avenue, and Linden Avenue. Parts of Bloomington remain rural, and some residents continue agricultural practices. Attempts at full incorporation in 1989 and 2007 were unsuccessful due to financial and administrative obstacles.
