Avocado Heights is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in the San Gabriel Valley of Los Angeles County, California. It is nearly surrounded by the City of Industry, with a small strip of unincorporated land separating it from South El Monte. The area is close to the Pomona (SR-60) and San Gabriel (I-605) freeways and is about 15 miles from downtown Los Angeles. The 2020 population was 13,317.
The community has a semi-rural, equestrian character, with many homes on large lots of half an acre or more. Industrial development nearby and the Puente Hills Landfill historically kept property values lower, preventing dense suburban growth. Avocado Heights sits on former Rancho La Puente land, covers 2.3 square miles, and is mostly land. Don Julian Road is the main street, and Don Julian Elementary School serves the area. The community is known for private ranches and horse riding, and in recent years, a skatepark was added.
