Irwindale is a small city in the San Gabriel Valley, Los Angeles County, California, with a population of 1,472 as of 2020. The city shares ZIP Codes 91010, 91702, and 91706 with nearby communities. Historically, Irwindale’s gravel pits supplied much of the rock and sand for Los Angeles highways, and it is home to the Huy Fong sriracha factory. Since 2005, the city has hosted the Renaissance Pleasure Faire of Southern California. Housing is mostly located in the southeastern part of the city, with a small area in the northwest.
Originally part of Mexican land grants, Irwindale was settled in the 1850s and incorporated as a city in 1957. Economic growth increased with the automobile industry and gravel supply, later boosted by urban redevelopment in the late 1970s and 1980s. The city attracted businesses such as Miller Brewing Company and Home Savings of America. A proposed Raiders stadium in 1987 on a former gravel pit was canceled after legal and environmental challenges, though owner Al Davis kept a $10 million signing bonus.
